Tracks is a cultural programme on the Franco-German channel Arte, all about emerging trends, the avant-garde, lifestyles and artistic experiments.
We created its initial identity back in January 1997 with an opening that soon became a benchmark - influential, multi- awarded and often copied. Quite probably one of the most enduring opening titles on air - 18 years!
So when we were asked to refresh the experience, we felt we were given a great opportunity - and a heavy responsibility.
Keeping the principle of a one-take sequence, we use the camera movement for a spatial discovery of the programme’s editorial promises and universe. Watch closer and guess who’s who in this cameo of French touch idols.

We wanted to find the energy of a hand made typeface, one that conveys the energy of instantaneity as much as the boldness required by common usage needs. To be honest we didn’t find it, so instead we created it.
Call it old, call it arty, call it green, 1.33 or not HD,
call it whatever you want, we still love the original!
